The monument commemorates Trooper Herbert William Waddell of Singleton who was killed in action on 27th September 1900 at Pienaars River, during the South African (Boer) War.
It is a sandstone obelisk with relief carving of a mounted trooper, laurel wreath, and crossed rifles at base.
