The gate in the Great Southern Stand at the Melbourne Cricket Ground was dedicated as the Bill Woodfull Gate to commemorate Bill Woodfull, the Australian Test cricketer who captained the Australian Test Team during the infamous Australia v England “Bodyline” series in 1932 - 1933.

The Bill Woodfull Gate

Between 1922 and 1934, opening batsman W. M. (Bill) Woodfull compiled 13,392 first-class runs (49 centuries), averaging 65 per innings.  

A most dependable player, "Woody" was revered for his courageous leadership and gentlemanly demeanour.

He was the only Australian Captain to regain The Ashes twice in England (1930 & 1934)
