CHARTERS TOWERS. December 28.— Alderman R. H. Davies has dedicated a memorial to the founders of Charters Towers, Messrs Jupiter Mosman, H. Mosman. Fraser and Clarke. In dedicating the memorial Alderman Davies spoke particularly on the actual finding of gold in Charters Towers by Jupiter Mosman. Alderman Davles stated the memorial provided a record for the memory of the finders of Charters Towers. Up until now, he said, the city's founders had been practically unrecognised and it had been left to a private citizen. Mr. Syd Williams, to erect the memorial. It was a fulfilment of a promise by Mr. Williams to Jupiter Mosman in 1943. It was fitting said Alderman Davies, that a representative of the aboriginal community in the person of King Kiara, should unveil the plaque on the memorial.

Prospectors - Hugh Mosman, George Clarke,
J. Fraser and horseboy Jupiter
were camped behind Towers Hill.
During a heavy thunderstorm the packhorses
bolted and Jupiter tracked them to
a gully near the gap.
He stopped for a drink
and when he put his head in the water
he saw very rich specimens of gold ore.
About 2000 ounces of gold
were found around the surface.
