The monument was originally erected to commemorate the men and women who worked at Victoria Park Station, and four Station Masters, Misters Flood, Blakeley, Chopping and Pike.

The original plaque was removed by the person who funded the monument, and the monument has been restored. The original plaque has not been replaced and the plaque now commemorates stationmaster Donald Pike.
