The plaque commemorates the association between the railways and railway workers of Western Australia and Cuming Smith and Company, which was the first company to make superphosphate in Australia. The company commenced manufacture at the Bassendean Works in 1909, using the brand name ‘Florida’.

The Railway Museum was developed on land donated by CSBP & Farmers Ltd in recognition of their ties with railways in West Australia.
