Augathella - home of `Smiley`
2008 marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the classic Australian movie `Smiley`.
The `Smiley` stories were written about a boy growing up in Augathella. Auther Moore (Neville) Ramond, son of the local teacher, wrote the stories about his childhood friend Didy `Smiley` Creevey.
There are many local references in the film, and the theme song was top of the hit parade on the wireless.
Didy `Smiley` Creevey passed away in 1972.
Locals remember 'Chips` Rafferty as young shearer on Nive Downs Station.
