The plaque commemorates the 70th anniversary of the flight of Sir Ross and Sir Keith Smith's from England to Australia in 1920.
The Vickers Vimy bomber flown by Ross and Keith Smith to Australia from England in 30 days is now on permanent display at Adelaide Airport. Ross Smith who was in charge of the venture was awarded 10000 pounds from the Australian Government for winning the race.
Sir Ross and Sir Keith Smith both attended the Walkerville Primary School as students.
Next to the plaque there is a tree planted in July 1922 by Sir Keith Smith in memory his brother, Sir Ross Smith.

This plaque commemorates the 70th Anniversary of the arrival in Adelaide of Sir Ross & Sir Keith Smith with crew members Wally Shiers and Jim Bennett on 23rd March 1920 in their Vickers Vimy bi-plane following their epic first flight –
England to Australia 12 Nov. 1919 to 10 Dec. 1919.
