The bronze plaque commemorates Diana Thornton who drowned while attempting to rescue her children.

The plaque is affixed to a rock near where she died, was constructed by the Victor Harbor Apex Club at the request of her relatives.  

Thornton`s family were on their last outing before returning to England after a short period of employment in Australia.  She drowned while attempting to protect her children who were swimming in the area.

Our darling Didi - an actress - was swept away by the rip in this Petrel Cove, whilst saving us and friends.

Death came on a happy day when we had him least in mind

The tide turned and changed our lives, for she was our joy and all we had.

Our darling Didi was the beloved wife of Rodney Ford and the devoted mother of Eleanor 13  Joshua 10 and Arthur 7

Born in England 1st July 1942

Didi drowned here 13th February 1977.
