The memorial plaque commemorates Diana Thornton who drowned while attempting to rescue her children. The bronze plaque affixed to a rock near where she lost her life, was constructed by the Victor Harbor Apex Club at the request of her relatives.

Thornton`s family were on their last outing before returning to England after a short period of employment in Australia.  She drowned while attempting to protect her children who were swimming in the area.
