The headstone erected at the grave, commemorates John Forman, a seaman who accidentally drowned in August 1909.

A SAILOR DROWNED.
NEWCASTLE, Friday. 
A seaman named John Forman, employed on the steamer Waitemata, which is lying in the inner basin, fell into the harbour this evening, and was drowned. He was going on board the steamer when he overbalanced, and fell into the water. The body has not yet been recovered.
