Jack Fisher & Cliff RhodesPrint Page
The gates commemorates Jack Fisher and Cliff Rhodes, members of the Fraser Coast Cycling Club, who were killed in aeroplane crash in June 1960 on their way to a carnival in Mackay, Queensland.
They were on board a Fokker Friendship passenger aeroplane operated by Trans-Australia Airlines (TAA) which was on a night approach to land at Mackay, when it crashed into the sea. All 29 people on board Trans-Australia Airlines (TAA) Flight 538 were killed. It was TAA's first accident to cause passenger fatalities in the 14 years since the airline was founded and remains Australia's deadliest civil aviation accident
