The seat commemorates Wayne David Ellicott who was accidentally killed while working on the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge in 1962.

The Trades and Labour executive will report to Council on the cause of an accident in which an 18-year-old youth was killed on the Commonwealth Avenue bridge project on Wednesday.  The Executive asked A.W.U. organiser on the project, Mr. W. Spellman to make the investigations. The Council has been pressing for more safety inspectors in Canberra. The youth, Wayne Ellicott, of Hannan Crescent, Ainslie, died on the way to hospital after a 22-ton girder fell on him while he was helping load it onto a semi-trailer.
