The seat commemorates 100 years since Joseph William Blumson landed at Smoky Bay from the S. S. Argyle in October 1905.
In October 1905, Joseph came to Smoky Bay to work for the late James Williams, and the next year he applied for Block 29, Hundred of Blacker, and the year after, he and his brother, A.J. Blumson, commenced his life's work at Laura Bay. He had the honour of being elected first councillor for the District Council of Murat Bay in 1925. He was secretary of the Smoky Bay Branch of the S.A. Agricultural Bureau for some years and left there to assist in the formation of the new branch at Laura Bay. He died in 1937 aged 56 and is buried in the Ceduna Cemetery.
