The headstone commemorates the Reverend Robert Miller, the second Presbyterian minister at Grafton, who died in 1855.
Robert Miller died in 1855 and was buried near the Presbyterian manse which was located on Wilson's Hill. In 1914 the property was purchased by Mr Schwinghammer but it was not until 1929 that the tombstone was disclosed. The Presbyterian congregation of South Grafton then had the headstone restored and removed to St Stephens church.

ON THE 6TH APRIL 1855,
IN THE 45TH YEAR OF HIS AGE
HAVING BEEN SETTLED
FOR NINE MONTHS PREVIOUS,
AS A PRESBYTERIAN MINISTER
AT GRAFTON.
This stone is erected
By the inhabitants
Of North and South Grafton
By whom he was much esteemed
And deeply regretted
" The hour of my departure's come
I hear the voice that calls me home
at last, O Lord ! let trouble cease,
And let thy servant die in peace."
