A grove of trees commemorates the Powell Brothers who enlisted in World War Two.
The five Powell Brothers were members of the Kirra Surfclub in the 1930's and were educated at the Southport School. Two of the brothers, Laurence and Lance were killed in World War Two.

This grove of Cupania trees was planted in honour of the Powell Brothers of Coolangatta.
In November 1942 Laurence Powell (A. I. F.) was killed in action at Kokoda in Papua New Guinea.
Lance Powell (R .A. A. F.) was lost in an air operation over Burma in 1943.
The remaining Powell Brothers John, Arthur and Ivan all served their country in World War II.
