The Granton Memorial Hall was erected to commemorate Max Dickenson and Don Nation who lost thier lives in World War Two.
A plan for a war memorial hall at Granton was submitted to the council by Cr N. K. Dixon, on behalf of a committee of residents. He said it was proposed to build the hall on a reserve off the State highway.The people were anxious to share in any Government subsidy, but they did not propose to allow that to delay getting the building. It was decided to apply to the Lands Dept. for permission to build on the reserve.
