Private Frank Suttie & Private Donald Ross Print Page
The monument was erected in memory of two men from the 1st Contingent, Victorian Mounted Rifles who died in service and were killed in action in the South African (Boer) War.
Private Frank Suttle was killed in action at Baster`s Nek in 1900 and the claim on the memorial that he was the first Victorian to die in the conflict is apparently incorrect. Private Ross died of illness contracted during the war.
