The monument commemorates Trooper Philip Reilly who died at Bloemfontein in South Africa in 1900.
CAMDEN, Wednesday. The memorial stone erected in memory or the late. Trooper Phil. Reilly, formerly of Burragorang, who died in South Africa during the Boer war, was unveiled today by Mr. G. W. Fuller, M.P. The stone, which was in the form of a large pillar, and suitably inscribed, was erected on the grounds of The Oaks Public School. The Camden and Picton squadrons of Australian Light Horse were in attendance at the ceremony in full dress. Addresses were delivered by Messrs. Fuller and Henry Willis, Ms. P., F. W. A. Downes, M.L.A. Colonel Macarthur Onslow was in charge of the Australian Light Horse. About 400 people attended. After the ceremony a banquet was tendered to the numbers.
