The plaque commemorates Flight Lieutenant Warwick James Turner who was killed when they Kittyhawk fighter he was flying crashed in April 1945.

At the conclusion of camera barge strafing on the Murray River, apprroximately 3 kilometres west of the Curlwaa Bridge at the Yelta Barge Strafing Range at Coomealla, Flight Lieutenant Warwick James Turner disobeyed instructions and commenced a 'beat up' of the range control boat. On pulling out of a dive close to the water, the aircraft 'squashed', struck the surface, balloned and disintergrated.
