The marble tablet commemorates Trooper William Taylor who died of wounds in May 1900, and Trooper Alfred Allingham who died in service in June 1901 during the South African (Boer) War.

HILLGROVE, Thursday. A memorial tablet to Troopers Taylor and Allingham, who fell in the South African War, was yesterday erected at the post and telegraph office. The memorial is of a very neat design.
