Two stained glass windows were erected by F. D. McMaster J.P., to commemorate Private Harry Noble Ruse who died from the effects of gas during World War One.

A memorial service was held in St. Columbas Church, Cassilis,on Sunday evening last in connection with the death of the late Private H. Ruse, of Dalkeith. The Rev. H. E. West preached an eloquent sermon. A very large congregation was present, and the M.U.O.O.F., of which the late Private Ruse was a member, was officially represented by several of the officers and members, who appeared in regalia, whilst the regalia of the deceased was placed on the altar. Several returned soldiers also paid a last token to their fallen comrade by their attendance. They marched in a body to seats reserved for them, followed by the Oddfellows. During the service the Dead March is "Saul" was efficiently played
