The drinking fountain commemorates local physician, Dr John Alexander Sutherland.
A drinking fountain, erected to the memory of the late Dr. J. A. Sutherland, of Ascot Vale, was unveiled this afternoon by Dr. J. Y. Fishbourne. The fountain is situated close to the main entrance of the Queen`s park, Moonee Ponds, is of Gothic design, and twelve feet high. It is erected of red and grey Heathcote granite, mounted on a solid bluestone pedestal, and is suitably inscribed. The work was executed by Messrs A. and G. Ballantyne,
