Hubert & I. ElsonPrint Page
The park bench commemorates the founders of public transport in Redcliffe in 1922.
Hubert Arthur Elson was born in 1884 son of James Thomas Elson and Hannah Maria Farmer. Hubert arrived on the Redcliffe Peninsula in 1919 to operate the Redcliffe Hotel (The Ambassador). Recognizing the need for public transport on the Peninsula Mr. Elson tried to encourage other business men to begin a bus service. When this was unsuccessful he began to operate the Redcliffe Petrie Motor Service in 1922 taking people from Woody Point, Redcliffe and Scarborough to the Petrie Railway Station.
