Source: MAThis plaque commemorates the life and work of Captain Francis Freeburn (1812 - 1879)
First Pilot of the Clarence River Heads Maritime Station.
Captain Freeburn was appointed on 10 January 1854 and remained in charge of the station until his death on 10 May 1879.
He was honoured in his lifetime for his devotion to duty and courageous rescues of shipwrecked mariners and their passengers.
The plaque marks the 150th anniversary of Captain Freeburn`s appointment as Yamba`s first Pilot.
