The headstone was erected over the grave commemorates former miner Jonah Crook who died in 1934 at the age of 85. The headstone was erected by his former comrades in the industry.
An old resident of Bellbird was laid to rest at Sandgate last Friday in the person of Mr. Jonah Crooke. The late Mr. Crooke worked in the Bellbird Colliery until his health failed him, and later on he went to Lidcombe where he died after four years residence there. At his wish, his remains were conveyed to Sandgate and buried. The deceased was 86 (sic) years of age.
