Martin Sheils Park
This park is named in honour of Mr. Martin Sheils (1896 - 1988).
The son of a Coomera pioneering family of Irish descent, who moved to Upper Tallebudgera in 1906.
In 1922, Martin became the Mail Man and supplier for Burleigh Head, with his wagon driven by a team of horses.
He picked up passengers, mail and grocery orders on the way down the valley to the railway station at West Burleigh.
Martin continued his carrying business until 1946.
This park is in the area where Martin used to water and rest his horses.
