The monument erected over the grave commemorates Henry Masters Barter, who was the First Assistant General Traffic Manager for the Victorian Railways.

Melbourne, Saturday Evening.
Mr. Henry Masters Barter, Assistant General Traffic Manager of the Victorian Railways, died this afternoon of congestion of the lungs after a short illness. Mr. Barter had been very nearly thirty years in the service of the department, and was deservedly respected by all sections of it. He was 54 years of age.
