The monument commemorates Eccles Tamwoy for his services to the community 1957-2007. Tamwoy Town is named in his honour.
Eccles Tamwoy, was a respected leader & elder on Badu Island as well as Badu Council Chairman for over 30 years. Previously known as Eagle Camp, Tamwoy Suburb was officially proclaimed on 27 December 1956 and officially opened by Eccles Tamwoy on 9 February 1957.
