THE ‘HARRY CHAPMAN’ ABORIGINAL
MIDDEN SITE
This Tribal Site Is Of Special Meaning To South Coast
Aboriginals. Our Forefathers Of The Yuin Tribe Roamed
And Used This Land. This Area Although Now Developed
Was Once A Traditional Campsite. Our People Would
Camp Here And Enjoy Seafood And Also Roam Into The
Bushland In Search Of Plant And Animal Food.
Not Far From This Midden Site Is Also A Burial Site And
This Burial Site Now Desecrated And Built On, Has Special
Spiritual Significance To All Aboriginal Descendants.
Harry Chapman Was A Tribal Elder Who Died Some Years
Back But Is Remembered For The Standing He Had In The
Community And For The History Which He Passed On.
Naming This Site After Him Is Our Way Of Remembering The
Old Times Years Ago When Aboriginals Were At Home In
This Land.
