The memorial garden and plaques commemorate Senior Constables Ray Scorer and Alan Thompson who were killed after returning from a funeral for a murdered colleague. Both police officers were highly regarded in the Cessnock Community.
Ray Scorer and Alan Thompson died when the police car they were in crashed near Cessnock in May 1977. The men had just been to the funeral of another officer, Doug Eaton, who had been murdered days earlier.
