The marble headstone, erected over the grave, commemorates John Henry Dunsford, Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly from 13 May 1893 to 15 September 1905.

After spending time as a councillor at Charters Towers, John Dunsford, standing for the Labour Party, won the seat of Charters Towers in the Queensland Legislative Assembly, and he held the seat for over twelve years until his death in 1905.

At the request of the Parliamentary Labour party a marble headstone has been made to place over the grave of Mr. J. H. Dunsford who for many years was member for Charters Towers. The stone will go directly to Cunnamulla where Mr Dunsford is buried.
