H. B. Ford served as Superintendent of the Cape Otway lighthouse from Dec. 1848 to June 1878.
Located on Victoria's dangerous coastline, this landfall beacon for those completing the long passage from Europe was never allowed to die while in the charge of the Fords.
This plaque was unveiled on Dec 10 1985 by the Hon. Mr R. W. Walsh, M.L.A. Minister for Public Works in the 150th year of the Colony and State. They enabled so many to arrive in safety. This sandstone block came from the Ford's headquarters.
