The monument commemorates the contribution of noted architect, administrator and educationalist, George R. King to the cultural and educational life of Geelong. From 1898 to 1934, King served the Gordon Technical Colleges Secretary, and later, Principal with great distinction. The granite boulder from the Dog Rocks at Batesford was erected by ex-students of the Geelong Technical College, symbolising King`s love of the area and the dramatic Dog Rocks formation.
