The gates commemorate the work of Robert Vicars to the Beecroft Bowling Club, of which he was President for 24 years.
Beecroft Club has expressed its appreciation of the 24 years' service of Robert Vicars as president of the club. A fine set of iron gates have been erected bearing the following tribute: "These gates were erected by the members of this club in appreciation of the work of Robert Vicars-1950." His 24 years as president -22 years consecutively -may be a club record. When formed in 1913, Beecroft was the only bowling club on the northern line between Strathfield and Newcastle.
