Dedication
"The Bridge Baby"
In memory of
Margaret Jean (nee McMillan) Pallant
(1919 - 1985)
A newborn baby (2 hours) was the youngest member of the
community to cross the `Children`s Bridge` at its original
opening on 6 December 1919.
That baby was named "Margaret" at the request of William Richardson, the benefactor of the bridge in honour of his late wife.
Margaret went on to marry Mervyn Pallant in 1942, living her entire life in the greater Strathalbyn area. She bore three sons, was a homemaker, a celebrated cake baker, and later a gifted landscape artist.
Margaret died from cancer in 1985.
