THE ARTIST

Yoshin Ogata
Japan

Born in Miyakonojo, Japan and now living in
Italy, Yoshin is a gentle and very focused artist.

Following his first exhibition of sculptures at the Shinseisaku-Kyokai, Tokyo In 1970, he moved to London and studied at the British Museum.  After travelling in Europe he arrived in Italy in late 1971 where he studied sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan, Florence and Rome. In 1973 he moved to Carrara to make contact with the world of marble.

In an outstanding career spanning over 40 years, Yoshin Ogata has held regular solo exhibitions internationally, won first prizes and numerous monumental sculpture awards including the Beijing Olympic Sculpture Park.  His works can be found in many important  International and private collections.

'Sunshine' is a memorial to the contribution made by Chris Steele Scott to the Hills Sculpture Trail. She passed away shortly after the 2014 sculpture symposium. Yoshin has depicted the sun radiating waves of warmth and light and talked about Chris's friendly and warm nature. The droplet is a drop of sunshine.

"She was always smiling”
