The lich gate at the church was given to commemorate the lives of Blanche Ross Watt, Katherine Ross Watt & Elsa Sauer. 

Mrs Blanche Ross Watt, who died in 1956, was awarded an O.B.E and was the first woman president of the Gisborne Shire. Katherine Ross Watt and Elsa Sauer were her adopted daughters. 
 

Note: lich gate is a variant spelling of lych gate.
