Cyclone Larry Pease Park Restoration Project
On the 20th March, 2006 Cyclone Larry crossed the coast at Innisfail and wrecked havoc on our small community. The Pease Park facilities were particularly hard hit with many buildings and sheds being totally destroyed.
On the 13th April, 2006 Premier Peter Beattie announced a $5 million funding package to assist Johnstone Shire Council with the rebuilding of all its buildings and facilities. This invaluable support at the Johnstone Shire`s greatest hour of need has enabled the facilities at Pease Park to be rebuilt with the view to many years of future use and enjoyment.
Within days of the cyclone, Suncorp Insurance representatives were in Innisfail reviewing damage and assisting with the speedy resolution of issues and claims. The helpful assistance, advice and funds offered by Suncorp has meant that the Pease park Facilities were able to be used for almost all of racing calendar of events for 2006 and all of the events held in 2007 as well as the 2006 Innisfail Show and the 2007 Innisfail Show.
The major contractor used in the rebuilding was P. D. Garget Building Contractors.
This plaque is placed to officially open the repaired and upgraded facilities at Pease Park.
This pavilion will after today be known as the : "Franklin Cook Pavilion" in honour of Franklin Cook`s life long membership and support of the Innisfail Show Society
