The monument consists of a plaque, a small stone wall and a bench which commemorates the pioneer women of Australia and their contribution to the growth of the nation.
It was erected by the National Council of Women (ACT) and unveiled by Lady Hasluck, wife of the Governor-General, Sir Paul Hasluck, on 2 September 1972.
