Plaque :

Murtho Village settlement

On the 7th May, 1894 Messrs C. J. Smith, J. H. Shackleford, E. Pitt, A. E. Gellert, L. E. Saunders and H. Cordeaux arrived on the steamer Gem to establish the Murtho Village settlement

The village was dissolved by the Government on the 1st March, 1900

The avenue of trees was planted on the site of the village to commemorate the centenary and the pioneering settlers of the District

This plaque was unveiled on the 8th October, 1994
