The plaque, located at the site of the old Genoa Bridge, commemorates the pioneers of Genoa and District who crossed the bridge and those who fought to preserve the bridge from demolition and persevered to achieve its restoration.
The old bridge was built in 1928, heritage listed in 1995 and restored in 1997. The timber truss bridge was destroyed by the 2019 / 2020 bushfires. Work started on a new bridge on the 26th February 2021.

This plaque commemorates the pioneers of Genoa and District ~ past and present ~ who have travelled across the bridge on foot, by horseback and motor transport, and pays tribute to those who fought bureacracy to save this unique structure from demolition and perserved to achieve its restoration.
