A flagpole and community plaques commemorate the bicentenary of the settlement of Bankstown in 1795. The flagpole is surrounded by plaques commemorating the Gold Key Status awarded during the bicentennial community celebrations between 1993 -1995. 

On the 1st September 1994, the Australian flag was raised for the first time during Local Government Week in the reserve in commemoration of Mr Walter Selby Wood's contribution to the growth and development of the Bankstown Local Government area.
