The plaque commemorates 150 years since the proclamation of the Urana township in 1859. 

Department of Land and Public Works, 6th May 1859. URANA.
Notice is hereby given, that a site has been fixed upon for a Town, to be called Urana, at the undermentioned place, and that Copies of the approved Plan have been deposited for public information at the Surveyor General's Office, in Sydney, and at the Police Office, Albury, viz:— Urana, situated at Urana Creek, on the road from Wagga Wagga to Deniliquin, and about 80 miles from the former township.
