50 Years of Larundel Soldier SettlementPrint Page
The plaque commemorates 50 years of the Larundel Soldier Settlement from 1952 to 2002.
Soldier settlement refers to the occupation and settlement of land throughout parts of Australia by returning discharged soldiers under schemes administered by the State Governments after World Wars One and Two. In Victoria after World War Two, the Soldier Settlement Scheme was refined in the light of past failures. Blocks were bigger, were more carefully selected and roads, housing and fences were supplied to prospective settlers.
