The monument commemorates Edward John Eyre Eyre`s journey and replenishment of supplies. The monument was unveiled during the sesquicentenary celebration in 1991.
Edward John Eyre established a base camp in the sandhills at Fowlers Bay, from where, in 1841, he embarked upon his epic overland journey of exploration, westward to Albany.
