140th Anniversary of Captain George Grey`s Exploration Print Page 
In 1839 Lieutenant George Grey was shipwrecked near the mouth of the Murchison River whilst on an exploration expedition, resulting in a 645 kilometre walk to the Swan River Settlement. He reported favourably on the mining and pastoral potential of the area he named the Victoria District.
Grey's Spring, sometimes called Grey's Well, is a historic site in Kalbarri, Western Australia. It is a stone-lined well built by George Grey during his explorations of the area in 1848. It now has a grid cover installed for safety reasons.
