The cairn commemorates Rat Point Camp which was used by the Depot Party of the Victorian Exploring Expedition led by Burke and Wills in 1861.
The cairn was erected by the Army Survey Regiment, Bendigo during their search for the grave of William Patton, a member of the Burke and Wills expedition.

Ludwig Becker, William Purcell, Charles Stone,
William Hodgkinson, John Smith And Belooch
A Camel Driver. Established By Members Of Army
Survey Regt Bendigo On 23 Aug 1992 During The
Search For The Grave Of William Patton.
