This plaque commemorates the opening of the bridge as part of the North East Ring Route on 26th May 1977 by the Hon. Des Corcoran, M.P. Deputy Premier Minister of Works and Minister of Marine.
The bridge bears the name of the second Commissioner of Highways in South Australia, Piers A. Richmond, M.I.E. Aust., who served in that capacity from 1950 to 1958.
