The plaque commemorates the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Macquarie Wing of the State Library and recognises the role of the Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Works, Mr L .J. (Jack) Ferguson, in the dedication of the site to the library.
Work began on the Macquarie Street Wing in 1983 and it was opened in 1988 (Australia’s bicentenary) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in company with Prince Philip.
