Visit of Queen Elizabeth II Print Page 
The fountain commemorates the first visit to South Australia by a reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. With 16 jets of water 10.6 metres high with a central jet of 21 metres, this fountain was put into operation in 1954 at the precise moment Queen Elizabeth II alighted from her aircraft at Parafield.
In 2006, the fountain was replaced with a newer model.
Early arrivals in the city this morning had a preview of the Torrens Lake fountain in action. It was given a successful trial about 6 o'clock. The fountain, with a central jet of 60 ft. is one of the most important of the Royal visit decorations. It was built by Adelaide City Council as a permanent reminder of the visit.

Queen Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was the longest serving English monarch, who reigned from 6 February 1952 to 8 September 2022 a period of over 70 years.

The fountain and this plaque commemorate the historic occasion of the visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to the City of Adelaide March 1954.

Plaque :
This fountain replaces the original fountain presented to the City of Adelaide in 1954.
The replicated features include a 20m central jet. 16 jets at 15m in a circular pattern and sequenced lighting of blue, green, red and yellow.
